Hi all,
When I entered on someone's profile the other day, a message came up saying it was a pop up window, and it was being blocked. I was so startled, I didn't really take in what it told me, but I thought it told me to hold the control key down to view the pop up, and yesterday, I did that on a profile, and jaws went crazy, and started talking in a fast chattery whisper. well that's the only way I know to describe it. I had to reboot for things to return to normal. Actually, I can't tell which firewall is doing what, since Norton security has a firewall, and windows xp has a firewall. I can't even tell if the windows xp firewall is active. I think Norton just comes up and scans or does things, and jaws doesn't always read it, because I'll be doing something, like typing on the boards, and it will start grinding a minute or 2, like somethings' coming up. But anyway, what do I do to read profiles without them being blocked, and what do I do if jaws starts acting crazy like that again, besides restarting the computer? I don't really know for sure what blocked it, but it said google tool bar. How did I get the google toolbar? I didn't install it, I just made google my home page.

I'm not really sure about the other stuff, but to view the profiles just go to tools and arrow down till you get to popup blocker and tell it to allow popups from this site. As for the google toolbar, you can just remove it from control panel by going to add/ remove programs. hope I was some help.

Hello,
For the JAWS problem. I would try to unload JAWS then restart it again. It sounds like the XP pop up blocker is turned on. There is a few things that you can do to help that. First is to turn it off, by going to tools, then pop up blocker, then turn off blocker. Second, there is a little message that comes up when a pop up is blocked. You can get there with the JAWS cursor, and left click on it and a menu comes up. You can choose to let pop ups come up from this site only, which then it still blocks other pop ups from other sites. and someone else explained about the google thing. Hope this helps some.

I have grouble with anythign that says toolbar, aim toolbar, google toolbar, viewpoint toolbar, smartest and best thing to do it uninstall that junk and forget it. I had a problem for months with my laptop and found out the viewpoint toolbar had some how been installed, I didn't do it, and when I got rid of that, fixed the problem, same with other toolbars, aim toolbar slowed the computer down, yahoo1 caused funny things to happen, just ditch them all. they're loaded with spyware anyway more often than not.

Toolbars and popup controlers are the common problem. Look into disabling them, or allowing this site through.

well, thanks guys, Nikos beat you all to it. He told me the best thing to do is uninstall the google toolbar, and I did, so I can once again view profiles on here. I'll have to go in the xp or internet explorer tools, and see how xps' pop up blocker is set. Thanks all,

ps, now if only I could find another hp user who could tell me how to keep hp organize from coming up. I disabled some of the hp stuff, like updates, hp agent, which was frustrating, because it would come up just as xp was shutting and jaws would do his thing and say updates from hp agent. There some ads that come up on the side, where jaws doesn't read, like hp holiday shopping, and a walmart ad, because that's where mom got the computer from.Jaws doesn't seem to know they're there, but my mom can see them.Luckily they juststay on there for a second.
